NDA3M - Contemporary First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Issues and Perspectives (University/College):

This course focuses on existing and emerging issues of national and regional importance of concern to Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Students will analyze diverse perspectives from a variety of sources such as media, academic works and public opinion polls on events and developments related to land, community, governance, identity and culture. Using political thinking concepts and the political inquiry process students will explore their own and others ideas, investigate an issue to determine what needs to change, why and appropriate problem solving strategies.  PREREQUISITE: CHC2D - Canadian History or CHC2P - Canadian History or NAC2O - First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples in Canada

HPC3O - Parenting (Open):

This course focuses on the skills and knowledge parents, guardians, and caregivers need, with particular emphasis on maternal health, pregnancy, birth, and the early years of human development (birth to six years old). Through study and practical experience, students will learn how to meet the developmental needs of young children, communicate with them, and effectively guide their early behaviour. Students will develop their research skills through investigations related to caregiving and child rearing. 

HSP3C - Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, & Sociology (College):

This course introduces students to theories, questions, and issues related to anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Students learn about approaches and research methods used by social scientists. They will be given opportunities to apply theories from a variety of perspectives, to conduct social science research, and to become familiar with current issues within the three disciplines.

This course provides students with opportunities to think critically about theories, questions, and issues related to anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Students will develop an understanding of the approaches and research methods used by social scientists. They will be given opportunities to explore theories from a variety of perspectives, to conduct social science research, and to become familiar with current thinking on a range of issues within the three disciplines.  PREREQUISITE: The Grade 10 academic course in English, or the Grade 10 academic history course (Canadian and world studies)

IDC3O - Society and Sport (Open):

This course explores the role of sports and athletics in history and in various cultures. Using diverse resources and research methods, students will analyse the depiction of sports and health in media and literature and will examine trends in the business and communication of sports-related activities. They will also explore the importance of personal fitness and healthy living, the relationship between amateur and professional sports, and local and provincial opportunities and careers in sports, outdoor education, and physical activity.
