HRE3M - Faith and Culture: World Religions (University/College):

This course enables students to learn about the beliefs, traditions and practices of some of the Great Religions of the world. Students will explore the religious experience in its varied manifestations throughout human history and expressed through different forms of sacred language, ritual and life-style. While focusing on the faith journey of the Catholic and other Christian communities throughout the ages, students will also learn about the Church's interaction with other religions, particularly, Judaism, Islam and the Spiritual heritage of Canada's Native People. Students will recognize the connections between religion and the development of civilizations and the impact of religion on human experience. Students will learn to appreciate further their own unique Catholic heritage while developing a respectful understanding of other religions. In the Family Life Education strand, students explore a variety of topics related to the themes of personhood, family relationships and sexuality.

HRE3O - Faith and Culture: World Religions (Open):

This course engages students in the examination of world religions, particularly Judaism, Christianity and Islam, First Nations, Métis and Inuit Spiritualties’, and locally appropriate religious tradition(s), if suitable. This is a survey course that will help students understand the basic similarities and differences between the religious traditions so they can interact with others with acceptance and familiarity. Ontario is a multi-faith global community. Students will deepen their understanding of the various faith traditions in their local community and around the world.
