THJ3EA - Horticulture/Landscape Technology - (Workplace):

This program is a two-credit package (220 hrs.) available at the Grade 11 workplace level. This course focuses on residential and light construction systems related to commercial, industrial, and/or recreational construction; the development of generic employment skills and preparation for apprenticeship and training programs. Students will learn about and gain practical experience with various types of materials, processes, labour, tools, and equipment used in the construction industry; technical drawings; and auxiliary systems. They will also study industry standards and building codes; consider health and safety issues; and explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of construction technology on society and the environment. This course provides focused education and training relating to greenhouse management, product development and landscape design, construction and installation. Students participate in a 'hands-on' approach to school and community based design, scheduling and implementation of horticultural, floricultural, viticulture, and landscape projects. This course makes up two of the major credits for the Specialist High Skills Major in Horticulture and Landscape.   2 Credits
