The Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association AAA boys hockey final Tuesday at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls between the Saint Michael Mustangs and West Niagara Wolfpack came down to a shootout after regulation time and a 10-minute four-on-four overtime failed to produce a winner.

Saint Michael head coach Paul De Francesco had every confidence that his goalie, Ford Merritt, could drive his team over the finish line.

“One of our top goalies plays U18 and wasn’t allowed to play so Ford coming in with all that pressure on him did a great job.”

Merritt stopped three of five shooters in the shootout to help his team record a 3-2 win and help Saint Michael advance to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships March 24-26 in Lasalle.
