Pilgrimage

A pilgrimage is more than a walk—it’s a sacred journey of solidarity, reflection, and faith in action. The tradition began in 1975 at Notre Dame College School in Welland, where Fr. Jim Mulligan, inspired by his own pilgrimage to Chartres, France, envisioned a way for students to walk in unity with those suffering from injustice around the world. That vision became a powerful movement, and in 1989, Saint Michael Catholic High School proudly carried the torch forward by launching our own pilgrimage walk through the streets of Niagara Falls.

Since then, our Mustang community has raised over $150,000 in support of Development and Peace, with a special focus on aiding survivors of the Rwandan genocide and uplifting communities in the Global South. Each fall, students, staff, and families walk a route through our local neighbourhood—not just to raise funds, but to raise awareness, live our faith, and stand in solidarity with the vulnerable.

We walk because we believe in justice. We walk because we believe in hope. We walk because we are called to put our feet to the Gospel.

We warmly invite community partners and organizations to join us in this mission. If you are interested in donating supplies to support our walk, or if you'd like to donate or purchase a commemorative T-shirt, please contact the school. Your support helps us continue this powerful tradition of walking with purpose and hope.
